Description: Time travel back 91 years to Kyoto Japan for a fashion show. AI enhanced using deep learning techniques. Organised by women from the Young Women's Christian Association of Japan. The YCWA is a nongovernmental, nonprofit membership association which has promoted women's full and equal participation at all levels of society through leadership opportunities and training. Footage provided by kind permission of the University of South Carolina's Movie Image Research Collection / MIRC. ( full details below) About the Film YWCA member Mukaye San describes traditional Japanese dress such as the Kimono, Obi sash or belt, zori slippers and the classic wooden geta sandals. Miss San notes than in rainy weather, women correspondingly wear taller geta shoes. Both film and audio were digitally restored using AI deep learning techniques. AI Restoration: 1. The film was de-noised, and cleaned of flicker. 2. Colorized using open source models of Deoldify, Deep exemplar-based video colorization and Photoshop. 3. Frame interpolation increased from 24 fps to 96 fps and then down to 60 fps using the Rife App. 4. Upscaled to 4K resolution 5. Vocal recording was separated from original soundtrack using AI and remastered with new ambiance and music.
